ABOUT KJ
Kathryn Jane “KJ” Hurt is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Experience & Training
KJ began her work in the mental health field at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, where she gained knowledge and experience working in an acute psychiatric setting; both in inpatient and partial hospitalization programs. This experience involved working with children, teens, and families struggling with behavioral issues, mood disorders, emotional disturbance, learning disorders, ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and eating disorders. KJ has worked in a variety of different settings including non-profit agencies, private practice, and community counseling agencies. These have included Youth and Family Counseling of Lewisville and Prestige Clinic in Allen. At Youth and Family Counseling KJ worked with individuals who participated in counseling through a first offender court ordered program, as well as adults, teens, children, families, and couples.
Her work included helping clients develop healthy coping skills, strengthening family relationships, addressing communication struggles, and appropriately dealing with adolescent issues. At Prestige Clinic KJ worked with adults, teens, and children. She counseled clients on stress management, organizational skills, dealing with past trauma, improving coping skills, and setting goals to live a more fulfilled life. KJ also has experience in psychological and neuropsychological testing.
Counseling Philosophy
KJ’s background is in cognitive-behavioral therapy and is her primary approach to counseling. She has worked successfully with many clients using this approach. However, KJ believes at times other counseling approaches and techniques are necessary and valuable to the counseling process; therefore she incorporates them as needed.
Education
KJ received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Baylor University, and her Masters of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University.

KJ is a native Texan, raised in the Plano/Richardson area. She has been married to her husband for over ten years and has 2 children. She enjoys cooking, entertaining, traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
